Not another nude palette! I can hear you groaning from the other side of the screen. Now, wait just a second before you click away. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that brands are finally getting the hint and releasing full eyeshadow palettes? And the fact that while prices may be slightly rising, the quality of drugstore products is too?
Today, I’ve a beyond amazing palette from the collection to share with you.
I’m THRILLED to see a new collection from NYC after what feels like a long dry spell and good new is that you can find them at Target and Walmart. Yes, it’s true, Demi Lovato has teamed up with N.Y.C. New York Color Cosmetics to launch the Lovatics Makeup Collection for Spring 2016! In case you don’t know who she is, Demi Lovato is a spokeperson or brand ambassador for NYC.
It may not be new to some but definitely new to me. I was intrigued by this 12 shadows palette. It’s so funny when I saw this at Walmart and it was like the only one left. It’s like the whole display was raided by people who has picked up this palette. So, I got my hands on the collection and I couldn’t wait to share with you the Lovatics by Demi Eyeshadow Palette.
Now, let’s have a look:
The new fashionable NYC Lovatics by Demi Eyeshadow Palette (CAD$7.97) features 12 nude shades and allows you to channel Demi’s confidence all while showcasing your natural beauty. Your eyes will look naturally effortless with the Natural shades.
NYC has had a reputation to have hit-and-miss products through the years, even though the brand is responsible for some of my personal drugstore favorites.
This is a full-fledged eyeshadow palette with twelve shades with matte, shimmer and satin finishes. The packaging is like the cheap, light weight design. No mirror in this of course. It comes with two sponge tip applicators in here. On the back it assigns each shade here, and number 1 to 12, and then it tells you how you pair the colors for different looks.
When you stick a brush in, it do kick up a little bit of powder but at the same time I find them easier to get the color to show up on your eyes.
Here are an up-closed pictures on the 12 shadows in this palette. You’ll get 4 matte shadows with 8 lovely shimmery shades. I didn’t noticed any creasing or fall out actually. Just make sure to tap off your brush before applying to eyes since it can kicked off quite a bit of products.
Their formula is on point, nothing like what I’ve seen from NYC in the past— smooth and easy to blend, and not to mention pigmented. Color that lasts gets an A in my book, everything else is just cherries on top.
Pigmentation is surprisingly fantastic across the board. The formula was unlike anything I’ve tried previously from NYC as well— buttery and smooth, with only a little powder kick-up in the matte shades.
I find that the formula lends itself to super easy blending, and the shades all work so well together. Just to point it out, this palette gives you so much flexibility. So happy that even the lightest shade is visible to my light/medium skin toned. Yay!
Honestly, you’re totally able to take a look from day to night, or even pull off no-makeup makeup look with the lighter shadows. On the other hand, you can use the deep shades to create the sultriest of dramatic looks.
I’m really liking the shimmery shadows especially number 2, 4, 6 & 7 and the 4 shades of matte are a tad powdery in my opinion.
Here is a quick summary of whether NYC Lovatics is a dupe or dud compared to Urban Decay Naked 1 palette.
If you’ve been eavesdropping, you would probably heard the comparison between this palette with the original Naked Palette. Truth is they do look very similar, don’t you think?
I’m really impressed with some of the shades and formula here. To me at a glance, I think that it’s trying to be like the Urban Naked 1 original palette, just by looking the overall color palette skim and the pattern of shades.
The Lovatics palette contains a nice mix of matte and shimmer shades, and the shimmers range from barely-there shimmer to a moderate amount of shimmer.
I do think that they’ve a lot similar shades to Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette. The whole range are in the ball park of the Naked palette, but it’s not a dupe. For me a dupe means it has to be the exact same thing. I couldn’t really do that, but I can achieved a similar look when I wanted to mimic one eye to the other especially with the darker shadows.
The NYC palette is more chunky, flaky and powdery overall as compared to Naked palette which is buttery smooth and highly pigmented.
Overall, I think I’m quite impressed with this palette by NYC. I see that NYC is really stepping up their game!
For about CAD$7.00, this palette is a new drugstore favorite of mine. If you already have the Naked palette, I’d say you could skip it, but if you’ve been on the hunt for an affordable alternative, this is the one. I’m honestly so impressed with the quality and that jaw-dropping price!
