I was flipping through a magazine while waiting for my doctor’s appointment that I fumbled into this article. Yes, it’s a beauty magazine in case you’re curious to know. I find this article to be important but some including me still choose to ignore. So, today I want to know if what I’m about to share sounds familiar to you?

Q: How long Does Makeup Last?

Makeup artist Xavia Somerville said that the expiration date on makeup isn’t there to make us buy more. In fact if you’re …

Not sure whether to keep it or chuck it?  Here’s a few reading you need to continue reading!

Mascara: Bin after 3 months.

Lipstick: Keep for up to 18 months.

Eyeliner and eyeshadow: Has a shelf life of six to 12 months, liquid products expire faster.

Foundation, powder and blusher: Lasts around a year, but check the bottom of the container as there’s usually a number indicating how many months it will last for after opening.

“Expired makeup should really be thrown away – your face will thank you.”

So, which makeup products you still intend to keep even it passes the due date? Let me know on the comment section below. I love to hear your comments.

  1. Your post reminds me that I need to throw out a LOT of my lipsticks!😮
I’m very good with mascaras – some I will only use for a month but I always toss by 3 months’s time. I don’t want to risk eye infection!

  2. I will keep lipsticks as long as the texture and scent don’t go off – I’ve had a few that have lasted for a couple of years without going “off”, mascaras I will bin after 3 months, my loose eyeshadow pigments I will keep forever because I always use clean brushes and no one has used them but me.
